Pre-Care & Contraindications

Every result begins with preparation. Skin is living tissue — its condition determines how pigment heals, settles, and lasts. Below are standard pre-care instructions. DCPC may customize your instructions after medical intake is evaluated. Please read carefully before booking, and before your appointment.

ELIGIBILITY

  • 18+ with valid photo ID
  • Not be pregnant or nursing
  • Arrive sober and clear-minded (do not book/arrive under the influence of alcohol, recreational drugs, or any medication/substance that significantly alters judgment)

REQUIRED MEDICAL CLEARANCE

Medical clearance may be required (and you may be deferred) if you have:

  • Diabetes (Type I or II)
  • Autoimmune disorders or immunosuppressant medication use
  • Bleeding disorders or clotting conditions
  • Active skin irritation near the brow area (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, infection, acne, open lesions)
  • Accutane/isotretinoin use within the past 12 months
  • History of keloid scarring or poor wound healing
  • Recent Botox, chemical peel, microneedling, or laser near the brow area (wait at least 4 weeks)

If you arrive with undisclosed information that makes the procedure unsafe or inappropriate to perform that day, your appointment may be converted to a consultation/design-only visit or rescheduled at the artist's discretion. Deposits are non-refundable.

7 DAYS BEFORE

  • Stop retinol, glycolic acids, exfoliating acids, clay masks, or aggressive skincare on/around the brows
  • Avoid chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or microneedling near the brow area
  • No tanning or intense sun exposure (sunburned skin cannot be tattooed)
  • Limit alcohol and keep skincare consistent (no new products)
  • If safe, and cleared by your physician, avoid fish oil and “blood-thinning” supplements, herbs, & food (including ginkgo, turmeric, ginger, garlic)

48 HOURS BEFORE

  • Avoid alcohol
  • Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen (unless prescribed — ask first)
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, sauna, or steam
  • Prioritize hydration & sleep (calm skin retains best)

12 HOURS BEFORE / DAY OF

  • Avoid caffeine and stimulants (including energy drinks and pre-workout). If you take prescribed ADHD medication, do not stop without your prescriber's approval — notify me so I can plan appropriately.
  • No exercise or strenuous activity.
  • Wash your hair before your visit (brows must stay dry for 7-10 days post-procedure).
  • Arrive with clean skin: no makeup, sunscreen, or moisturizer on the brow area.
  • Eat a light meal 1 hour prior to maintain steady blood sugar.
